  • About the Role :

    Peninsula Health is seeking an experienced clinicians to work in the busy emergency department as a part of the Mental Health Clinician / Consultation Liaison (MHCL) team.

    The MHCL clinician is a valued and integral member of the Peninsula Health multidisciplinary team demonstrating flexibility in caring for clients and their carers / families while in the emergency department

    About Mental Health Consultation Liaison team

    Mental Health Consultation Liaison service is the assessment (face to face), treatment and planning service for patients with co-

    morbid mental health and physical health needs who have presented to the Emergency Department at Frankston Hospital.

    Mental Health Consultation Liaison service provides support, advice and guidance to non-mental health staff, clients, carers and families and addresses discharge planning with community mental health and support services to ensure appropriate mental health follow-up.

    The Mental Health Consultation Liaison service is located at the Frankston Hospital (FH) and is available 24 hours, 7 days a week for people of all ages in the Frankston Hospital Emergency Department.

    The MHCL team is a specialised mental health team and consists of :

  • Senior Nurses
  • Allied Health Clinicians
  • Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Duties :

  • Complete detailed and comprehensive assessments of clients presenting with mental health concerns
  • Liaison with external services and family / carers
  • Support staff to deliver optimum evidenced based person centred care
  • Appropriately managing bed allocation and maintain patient flow
  • Proactively support staff in identifying and managing clinical risk
  • Recognise and respond to unsafe or unprofessional practice
  • Recognise and respond to unsafe or unprofessional practice
  • Ensure accurate completion of documentation
  • Skills and Experience :

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration or registration with appropriate Allied Health organisation.
  • Professional postgraduate qualification in mental health.
  • Prepares written documentation using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
  • Clearly and confidently communicates with key contacts and welcomes constructive feedback.
  • Supports individuals and the team, delegating responsibilities appropriately.
  • Understands the issues and pressures to which the organisation has to respond.
  • Seeks all relevant information for problem solving.
  • Identifies and supports where necessary the need for change.
