Permanent Full Time Hours 37 hours per week

Our Role

Reporting into the Head of Engineering and Solutions, you’ll play a key managerial / decision making role within the SSE Enterprise Utilities business.

You’ll develop and review design Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) and Chilled Water (CHW) hydronic systems for district heating and cooling networks.

You’ll be instrumental in providing customised solutions for the purposes of project finance through emphasis in design on life cycle cost and energy performance.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Carrying out Design Feasibility Studies for LTHW and CHW hydronic systems compliant with CIBSE, ASHRAE, BSRIA and Heat Networks Code of Practice
  • Selecting and designing equipment in-line with manufacturer’s instruction and installation manuals as well as institutionally published and peer-reviewed materials
  • Responsible for devising design specifications and drawings for commercial and contractual purposes in-line with BSRIA frameworks or other applicable institutions
  • Producing a design risk assessment report focused on eliminating hazards and reducing risks in-line with CDM 2015 Designer Roles and Responsibilities
  • Managing relationships with external stakeholders and working closely with internal stakeholders to gain support
  • Managing the work of Design team
  • Reviewing and simulating the performance of the LTHW and CHW system
  • Your Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in mechanical services design for district heating and cooling networks
  • Strong understanding of current Building Regulations
  • Chartered Engineer membership
  • Relevant engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Design of networks in compliance with EN 13941
  • Track record in delivering energy centres and heating / cooling networks to RIBA Stage 4 requirements
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD
  • Good experience in large-scale decentralised energy solutions from inception to detailed design
  • Experienced in working as part of a team in demanding environment
  • Team management including strong experience of delivering Personal Development Plans for individuals, mentoring and developing less experienced members of the team
