The Solutions Architect is responsible for the development, support, configuration and deployment of new and existing areas of functionality in our Compendia product suite.

The location of the position is flexible and can be based from home or at one of the many Equiniti offices across the UK.

Department Information

Pensions IT is responsible for end to end delivery of all EQIT services into EQ Paymaster. Essentially this breaks down into two main areas, namely, Platform Development and Professional Services.

This is reflected in the structure with most functions being accountable for both platform development and delivery services.

The majority of platforms in use by EQ Paymaster have been developed internally and some platforms are in use by external software clients whom we also support.

We have a continual programme of development of both the main products and the subsidiary products across both the workplace / occupational and L&P market sectors.

Recent additions to the product set include a responsive self-service offering, web services for integration into other web sites, a mobile offering and the recent standalone RetireMe app.

The current focus is on the next iteration of the Compendia product, Compendia Touch, which is built on a refreshed technology stack.

Our roadmap looking forwards includes further Compendia developments to support the business operate efficiently and expand its market offering.

Core Duties / Responsibilities

Technical Design

  • Design the proposed solution to ensure it;Is consistent with overarching architectural vision.Fulfils the business requirements.
  • Makes best use of existing code where possible.Adheres to technical best practice and company standards.Provides optimal performance.

  • Build and Test.
  • Ensure successful delivery and conclusion of all programming or configuration activities to meet the Technical Design.
  • Ensure infrastructural design and deployment options are considered.
  • Ensure that any bespoke coding is made generic in nature for future re-use.
  • Undertake unit and link testing to ensure a quality build deliverable.
  • Provide system test strategies and plans for agreement and subsequently produce test data as required to test systems to the agreed test plans.
  • Documentation

  • Provide input into the creation of user and system documentation.
  • Other Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate estimates.
  • Apply best practice and follow defined policies and procedures.
  • Undertake peer reviews of other solution proposals.
  • Undertake peer reviews of code and configuration.
  • Undertake / provide input to the speedy resolution of support issues.
  • Support the deployment of the solution.
  • Commercial Awareness

  • Work within the boundaries of the defined scope of the project.
  • Design and provide a solution which is fit for purpose and in line with budgetary constraints.
  • Configuration Management.
  • Use appropriate tools as set out by company standards for the Configuration Management of all Project Deliverables.
  • User Liaison

  • Maintain a good working relationship with user contacts developing a rapport and trust with clients and operations.
  • Provide support and guidance with day-to-day systems problems.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience working with a product development company (ideally in pensions or pensioner payroll).
  • Experience of working as part of an agile development lifecycle.
  • Comfortable in dealing with colleagues at a senior level.
  • Familiarity with the implementation of systems (ideally in pensions or pensioner payroll arena).
  • Understanding of infrastructure and deployment considerations.
  • Advantageous to have an understanding of pensions administration or pensioner payroll.
  • Skills in the following would be advantageous

  • Microsoft Azure Platform
  • C#, ASP.NET
  • Visual Studio
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • ANSI standard SQL syntax used against SQL Server
  • MS Office
  • MSBuild / Continuous integration tools
  • Windows Server Administration
  • Software design patterns and best practices (especially dependency injection / inversion of control)
