Position Information

Wollongong HighSchool of the Performing Arts is a secondary school with an enrolment ofapproximately 1170 students, including 52 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanderstudents.

The school has the twin goals of academic excellence and excellencein the performing arts. School priorities include 21st Centurylearning, Community Partnerships and Wellbeing of Students and Staff.

WollongongHigh School of the Performing Arts has a strongcommunity reputation for success both academically and in the arts.

The schoolboasts a comprehensive sporting program and offers a wide range ofextra-curricular activities. The staff is committed and caring and thereis a balance of early career and highly experienced teachers.

Wollongong HighSchool of the Performing Arts also has a Hearing Unit located on site and anEmotional Disturbance Unit (Smith Street) located off site.

The successfulapplicant will be part of a successful and dynamic HSIE faculty committed tomaximising student learning outcomes at all levels.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach History (Years 7-10), Modern History, Ancient History and Geography Years 7-10. Approval and / or Willingness to teach Aboriginal studies and Commerce with a willingness / experience teaching History Extension.

Demonstrated abilityto deliver dynamic and effective lessons which reflect quality teaching andlearning.

Demonstratedability to work collaboratively in faculty and whole school teams to foster newideas and approaches to learning and student wellbeing.

Knowledge ofand commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policies, together withan understanding and sensitivity to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres StraitIslander students.

Understandingof and commitment to catering for the needs of students in a gifted and talentedcontext, and demonstrated ability to integrate information communication technologyto support teaching and learning strategies.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is arequirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSWDepartment of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as youapply for this teaching opportunity.
