Job Description

Solution Engineering Manager is a customer-facing role as they will represent VMware’s technology in presentations and workshops with our customers & partners.

The Solution Engineering Manager is responsible to lead and develop a world-class Enterprise SE organisation in their strategic engagement and pursuit of transformational change & success for our customers.

This role partners closely with our Senior Sales Leaders, ensuring our teams are partnered in lockstep as they drive for outcomes with our customers.

Actively managing the growth and development of the SE team to ensure the competency of the team is at its best and diverse to support the business, technology & solution offerings and in relevant vertical industries.

This includes developing their SE team members in areas such as career development discussions, regular check in performance conversations, and management of training plans.

This role is a member of the Enterprise & ANZ SE Leadership Team and contributes to the leadership of ANZ initiatives.

A critical relationship between our customers and VMware is the pre-sales solution engineering community, who work with our customers to define their challenges and design solutions to drive business outcomes.

The Solution Engineering Managers (SEM) are considered thought leaders and guide our customers and team members to achieve their goals.

Knowledgeable in IT technologies and industry aware, you will take a visionary role at providing IT strategies, solutions roadmaps and architecture together with its associated business values to our key Enterprise customers.

  • Actively driving for the success of customer engagements, both building relationships directly with customers, as well as coaching and supporting your team members in their pursuits.
  • Developing your team members via regular feedback, coaching, guidance, career development and active succession planning
  • You will lead the team through change, set strategy, be inventive, collaborate with others to align and define foundational practices, and remotely manage resources to ensure inclusiveness.

  • Act as an effective business partner and trusted advisor to your Sales Leaders, where you will be responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives and business plans that are aligned to business goals and organisational outcomes.
  • Contributing to regular territory reviews with Sales Leaders, ensuring a comprehensive technical understanding of top accounts and opportunities.
  • Contributing to VMware’s diversity & inclusion initiatives in ANZ, showcasing success across the ANZ Enterprise business
  • Facilitating One Team approach to the Enterprise customers with the Specialist SE teams.
  • You are committed to ongoing self-development with regards to technology, industry, processes and programs in order to lead the team and consult to peers, partners and customers.
  • You work with the team to cultivate creative ideas aiding in problem solving and decision-making to improve business engagements and negotiations.
  • A team player, you will support your team in developing their capabilities through effective leadership and a participative leadership style.
  • Exhibit executive communications, conduct effective meetings, presentations, negotiate, resolve conflicts and exhibit effective time & priority management.
  • Required Skills

  • Demonstrated systems engineering management experience
  • Technical sales or consulting skills are essential
  • Proven ability to engage at C-level for the purposes of solution selling, establishing peer relationships and articulating strategic vision.
  • Relationship building skills is able to establish positive internal relationships with colleagues and management peers
  • Offering development experience (direct or leading)
  • Negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a leader of individual contributors in a professional environment.
  • Strong people management skills including : hiring, developing, motivating and retaining technical sales people and an ability to manage any performance shortfall.
  • Demonstrates high ethics and integrity is respected
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as excellent presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of VMware’s product portfolio and go to market strategy.
  • Display high levels of emotional intelligence, reference senior level customer engagement, problem solving and negotiation
  • Qualification in business or engineering discipline or equivalent training and industry experience
  • This role will be based in Canberra.
