This position is jointly supported by the mental health inpatient service management and the Keeping the Body in Mind (KBIM) team.

KBIM is an innovative physical health team (comprising of a CNC, Exercise Physiologist, Dietitian and Peer Support Worker) to develop, implement and evaluate targeted lifestyle and pharmacological interventions to reduce cardio-metabolic risk factors in consumers with severe mental illness.

The position will focus on (but is not limited to) working with mental health consumers at the Prince of Wales Hospital to prevent and reduce cardiometabolic risk through evidence-based nutritional interventions.

In particular, the position will assess the nutritional needs of consumers and develop, in collaboration with the consumer, an individualised dietary management plan.

The dietitian will also be involved in delivering education and consultation to mental health clinicians to further facilitate improvements in diet quality among consumers.

The position will be actively involved in collecting and analysing data that will contribute to our understanding of the impact of lifestyle interventions on the cardio-metabolic health of consumers.

Selection Criteria :

  • Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and a qualification that provides eligibility for membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia
  • Demonstrated core competency skills in Dietetics with an understanding of Dietetics for consumers with mental illness
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters, commensurate with years of experience
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to proactively engage with consumers to enhance service delivery
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in a proactive manner and work as an effective team member
  • Capacity to develop and deliver dietary education and training to a range of professionals including mental health clinicians and GPs
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and evidence based practice and a commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
