If this describes you, you may be a great fit for our Commercial Contracting Manager role within the Government Systems Segment in support of Satellite Communications services and hardware / software design, development, production, installation and maintenance out of our Canberra office.

Using your proactive and professional communication skills, you will advise programmatic, technical and business leaders.

You will coordinate with both internal and external teams using your keen analytical skills to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations, including strategically contributing to Viasat’s competitive positioning on new business opportunities.

You will collaboratively provide hands-on input into contracting approaches and agreements, protect intellectual property, ensure contract compliance and assist in correct contract interpretations.

As an expert in your field, you will adeptly assess and advise management on contractual risks and support customer requests through strategic and timely input.

Responsibilities will include your personal ownership and accountability in proposals and the development and negotiation of contractual agreements, inclusive of Nondisclosure Agreements, Teaming Agreements, OEM / Software License, Contracts and Subcontracts).

You will examine proposal and contract requirements in detail, including verification of basis of estimates, assumptions, contingencies, compliance, risk mitigation and associated performance related dependencies.

This position involves a collective mix of international, commercial, and Australian Government Defence contracting experience with a keen attention on risk mitigation, and the protection of Intellectual Property.

Contracting will include firm fixed price, cost reimbursement and time and materials contracts.

As the liaison between Viasat and the customer, you will be empowered to propose, prepare and negotiate contracts that provide creative solutions to solve unique problems, while complying with all associated Viasat Corporate policies and procedures and Australia Government laws, rules, regulations and standards.

Job Responsibilities :

Assist in evaluating new business development opportunities including assessment of the overall business arrangement and provide strategic insight and suggestions to improve Viasat’s probability of win and execution success.

Key attributes and abilities for a successful candidate :

  • Solid understanding of Australian ASDEFCON government and commercial contracting.
  • Subject matter expertise in contract management principles and techniques.
  • Understanding of financial concepts (cash flow, ROI) and impact of contract terms on the concepts.
  • Ability to multi-task on a large number of complex contract issues.
  • Ability to development and gain acceptance of new processes, approaches and execution objectives.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently, demonstrating sound business judgment. With that said, must maintain a strong, proactive and positive working relationship with Viasat Legal General Council in support of overall job duties.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to embrace a collaborative, team oriented company culture.
  • Ability to deal confidently and professionally with internal and external customers at all organizational levels.
  • Think strategically, critically and analyze details for achieving program objectives.

  • 8+ years of business development and contract management experience, including Australian DEFCON experience.
  • Candidate must have superior proficiency in drafting contracts, Non-disclosure Agreements, Teaming Agreements, and Software License Agreements and negotiating thereto with a keen eye to recognize and minimize company risk and maximize Viasat’s profitable execution success.
  • Strong negotiation, writing and customer interface skills.
  • Bachelor degree in Business, Law or related field.
  • Australian citizenship required with the ability to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
