Technical Assistant / Officer Pathology
Are you a Technical Assistant / Officer with expertise in grain crop research including experience with field crop pathology research?
Within the Esperance based Pathology team the successful applicant will assist grain crop pathology projects in conducting research and surveillance to support the grains industry of WA.
This position incorporates field trial research including field plot and crop monitoring for diseases, collection and assessment of field research samples, and collection, collation and analysis of data.
The Northam-based position will assist grain crop pathology projects in conducting research and surveillance to support the grains industry of WA.
This position incorporates field trial research including establishing and managing field trials, disease inoculations, field plot and crop monitoring for diseases, collection, collation and analysis of data, and document writing.
The position also requires maintenance of plants in the glasshouse for use in glasshouse and field research. Additionally some laboratory based skills are desirable, including NIR and basic laboratory procedures.
Successful applicants for both positions should have experience within the Australian broad acre farming system research and field trial procedures and is preferred to have some crop pathology experience.
Technical Assistant / Officer - Entomology
Are you a Technical Assistant / Officer with expertise in grain crop entomology?
Within the Entomology team the successful applicant will assist grain crop entomology projects in conducting research and extension for the grains industry of WA.
This includes microscope examination and identification of samples and insect trap contents in the laboratory, field trial research including field plot and crop monitoring for pests and natural enemies, establishment and maintenance of insect traps, collation and analysis of data, and document writing.
The position also requires maintenance of plants and insect cultures in the glasshouse for use in glasshouse and field research.
The successful applicant should have experience within the Australian broad acre farming systems, microscope use and laboratory procedures.
Undertaking field work away from the base location for periods up to a working week may be required for all vacancies during the grain growing season providing an opportunity to experience WA's grainbelt.
Working outside normal hours to complete seasonal tasks may also be required.
Level Ranges :
Applicants will be assessed based on the skills and experience.
Level 1 $25,869 $60,376 pa (Under direct supervision provides routine and general assistance to senior officers in the areas of extension, inspection and research).
Level 2 $62,172 - $67,256 pa (Under immediate or general direction, provides routine and general assistance to senior officers in the areas of field or laboratory research).
Level 3, $70,896 - $76,717 pa, (Provides experienced high level technical support under general direction)

Eligibility / Other Conditions
To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia.
To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period of the contract and this is required as part of your application.
Completion of Year 10 or equivalent education (Level 1 only).
Certificate in a relevant discipline with some experience or a considerable level of relevant experience (Level 2 only).
Diploma in a relevant discipline with relevant practical experience or substantial relevant experience. (Level 3 only).
Undertaking field work away from the base location for periods up to a working week may be required.
Working outside normal hours to complete seasonal tasks may be required.
Living in regional / semi-remote community may be required.
An acceptable National Policy Certificate (police clearance), or equivalent may be required for identified positions (if not currently help, must be acquired prior to commencement at applicants expense).
A current and valid Western Australian "C" class (car) drivers’ license or equivalent is required (if not currently held must be acquired prior to commencement at applicant’s expense).
These positions are located in Esperance and Northam.
