About this role
This job is to act as the main commercial lawyer for BT’s Global business in Australasia, working as part of BT’s international Legal and Governance function.
The job requires the provision of first-class commercial, legal and contractual advice and solutions for all BT business in Australasia, as well as support on other matters in SE Asia.
Work on other legal matters and projects within the AMEA region and for BT Global may be required.
Specific Job Requirements
Providing commercial, contractual and legal advice and direction to negotiate and deliver profitable and commercially effective contracts with BT’s customers, partners, distributors, and key suppliers.
Working with internal and external resources to ensure that BT’s businesses meet their legal compliance obligations in Australasia.
Managing offshore legal support and external lawyers supplying services for Australasia.
To provide leadership in the development of best practice for commercial transactions, including negotiation strategy, risk management, precedents, templates, business training and know-how.
Anticipating legal developments relevant to the business, and providing advice on their impact.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Builds and maintains relationships with business stakeholders, advising on the impact of business decisions, identifying legal constraints and recommending business enabling solutions which minimise risk and support BT in achieving its strategy.
Establishes and maintains commercial relationships with BT’s customers, distributors and partners and represents BT in customer-facing commercial negotiations.
contributes to the continual development of trading policy to ensure best practice.
Provides accurate and timely legal advice, analysis and support based on a combined understanding of BT’s commercial strategy the legal environment, acting as a single point of contact for an assigned topic / area of the business where relevant.
Monitors legal developments which may affect BT, advising stakeholders of potential impacts and providing recommendations to minimise future risk.
You'll have the following skills & experience
Australian law degree and current practising certificate
6+ yrs PQE
Training with a leading legal practice
Experience with commercial, IT, IP & data privacy law.
Inhouse experience in the ICT industry beneficial.
Complex contract drafting skills.
Negotiation experience with large corporates and / or government
Working effectively with business stakeholders on pragmatic solutions that effectively manage risk and facilitate business.
Knowledge of telecommunications law and / or experience working internationally beneficial but not essential.
