About the role

Mineral Resources have a new opportunity in our Project Services team for a Principal Geologist to lead the mine geology field team.

We are looking for a hands on Geologist to manage external and internal parties to achieve organisational goals in identifying, exploring and developing existing and proposed assets and evaluating new deposits and developing current known deposits.

What we’re after

We’re looking for someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and enjoys a challenging yet rewarding work environment.

Reporting to the Geology Manager, working in both the Perth office and out on site on a campaign based roster. The role will be Monday to Friday whilst in Perth and a 4 / 3 FIFO roster during campaigns.

  • You will also be responsible for;
  • Supervision and high-level technical support for all mine geologists across the MRL group.
  • Geological interpretation including digitizing, wire framing and block modelling.
  • Grade control to Resource reconciliation tracking and reporting on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
  • Management of the grade control systems on all operating mine sites.
  • Management of the grade control contractor across all MRL projects.
  • Assessment of resource risk to medium term mine plan delivery and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and report on the quality of geological data collected across MRL projects.
  • Provide input data for the resource estimation team
  • Provide assistance and input to the short-term mine planning across MRL projects.
  • Plan and execute near mine extensional drilling
  • What you’ll bring to the team

  • Essential;
  • Tertiary level education in Geology
  • 10 + years’ experience in the mining and exploration industry
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
  • Skilled user of Micromine, Surpac and Mapinfo, Arc GIS or similar
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Previous experience in the management of mine geology teams.
  • Previous experience with ROM stockpile management and blending strategies.
  • Lithium, Iron ore and / or base metals experience.
  • Skilled in the best practice grade control methods, ore interpretation process and mine to mill reconciliation.
  • Desirable :

  • Report writing skills.
  • Previous experience in resource estimation and block modelling
  • Skilled in geological wire framing.
  • Skilled in database analysis (QA / QC)
  • Clear and practical understanding of the best mining and drill and blast methods for the protection of ore.
