EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

This expression of interest is for fixed term and casual, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise in Western Australian Government Schools during the 2020 school year.

As part of the coordinated State Government response to COVID-19, we are seeking expressions of interest from education assistants for various vacancies that may arise in both metropolitan and regional schools. Vacancies include :

  • Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO)
  • Ethnic
  • Engagement Centre
  • Special Needs Level 3
  • Special Needs Level 2
  • Mainstream Level 1 / 2
  • Applicants wishing to apply to any of the following categories must be able to produce the stated evidence :

  • Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO)
  • Aboriginality is considered essential for this position under section 50(d) of the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act.

  • Education Assistant - (AUSLAN)
  • must hold a Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Auslan Interpreting (Paraprofessional / Professional) and / or NAATI Accreditation or have considerable proven experience as an Interpreter.
  • Education Assistant - (Braille)
  • must demonstrate appropriate braille transcribing proficiency
  • Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.

    ELIGIBILITY

    Prior to any appointment, applicants will be required to :

  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • If you are not an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident but you have a temporary visa, you will be required to include details of your right to work in Australia.

    TRAINING

    Employees will be required to :

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any other training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
