About our team

  • SIMEC Mining , a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore operation in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges South of Whyalla;
  • consist of three primary sites : Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Whyalla is a diverse coastal community based approximately 400 km from Adelaide.

    About the role

    Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will join an established team of health and safety professionals who partner with the mining business and it’s contracting partners, providing support, coaching and ongoing development to improve the safety performance and move the business closer to achieving Goal Zero.

    Passionate about all things safety, you will be able to demonstrate your ability to influence and lead at all level of business.

    You have a pragmatic approach to safety and will be able demonstrate how you have provided practical, fit for purpose safety solutions to business, whilst ensuring that legislative and business requirements are not compromised.

    About your experience

    Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the application of health and safety principles derived from their experiences in mining and / or heavy industry and have relevant tertiary qualification and / or a diploma in OH&S.

  • You will also have;
  • Experience using health and safety data systems and the ability to understand the benefits of data and trend analysis to objectively inform the health and safety strategies
  • Demonstrated experience showing you can actively work with the business to ensure that the safety management systems are maintained
  • Experience providing guidance and training to improve the level of competency and capability across a workforce
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a demonstrated ability to influence safety outcomes and grow commitment across a diverse workforce
  • Quick thinker, adaptable and resilient under pressure. This a dynamic environment!
