About the Role

The Retail Branch Risk Coach is responsible for leading and embedding BOQ's risk culture within the Retail Branch Network.

This includes educating and coaching front-line teams on the right balance between risk and return, as well as the Group’s policies and procedures.

The purpose of this position is to manage and drive a reduction in operational risks throughout the business through a combination of activities that increase the risk management awareness and accountabilities across the Owner Manager / Franchise Manager, Corporate Branch Manager and team member network.

The Retail Branch Risk Coach will work closely and collaboratively with the wider Retail Network (including the Retail Leadership teams), the Group’s Compliance and Risk functions, Learning and Development and Group Assurance to develop and maintain insights around leading indicators and responses to the health of the Retail Branch Network.

The Retail Branch Risk Coach will identify risk within individual branches throughout the geographical areas and assist to implement action plans to reduce, control and eliminate identified risks.

The role exists to support the Retail Branch network to deliver on its objectives, whilst implementing and maintaining a strong risk culture across all functions.

The Retail Branch Risk Coach is to be known as a trusted business partner and advisor.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Lead and manage the ongoing capability assessment of Lending Managers, Branch Managers and branch staff to ensure training gaps are identified and resolved in a timely fashion
  • Provide coaching and training sessions throughout the region to upskill and increase risk awareness and knowledge
  • Ensure branch operations throughout region are managed in accordance with Bank policies and procedures on risk, compliance and security
  • Proactively identify, escalate and mitigate risks posed to colleagues, customers and the Bank within existing risk frameworks
  • Identify and drive best practice across key strategic and operational aspects of the business to lift the performance of the business
  • Lead by example through adherence and endorsement of a positive compliance culture
  • NOTE : There is a requirement to travel (intrastate and interstate) to conduct face to face reviews and coaching sessions within the Retail Branch network.

    About You

    To be successful in this role, you will have proven operational experience in a branch environment with a strong aptitude for compliance mindset

    You will also demonstrate :

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Code of Banking Practice and other Financial Sector compliance requirements
  • Proven experience in managing risk and meeting business compliance and audit obligations
  • Exceptional knowledge of BOQ products and services, policies and procedures, operational risk, compliance and audit processes and controls
  • Proven experience coaching, training and developing staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • A customer centric mindset with the understanding that customer feedback is a way to improve service
  • A personal standard of excellence marked by honesty and integrity
  • Ability to travel for periods at a time when required
