Join Telstra Enterprise and represent Telstra’s largest customer undertaking in history. We are looking for an exceptional Senior Systems Engineer to support our flagship client - the Department of Defence.

Telstra Enterprise will deliver for the Australian Defence Force’s Network Infrastructure for the next decade and beyond, supporting military operations in Australian and abroad.

You will be part of the journey to transform the defence communication network and be an enabler in its transformation in several communication technologies such as fixed telecommunications, satellite and tactical networks.

The primary purpose of this role is to support engineering activities for the Defence Business Unit. You will play a critical role in delivering on the JP2047 project in contributing to the successful deployment of the JP2047 Unified Communications solution through the application of systems engineering principals.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be applying systems engineering principals to deliver quality end-to-end systems that meet the user needs.

Please note : Candidates must be Australian Citizens and have current Baseline clearance minimum to be considered. This role will require you to hold and maintain an NV1 defence security clearance.

Please also note that this is a fixed term position concluding on the 30th November 2020.

Your key responsibilities and major tasks include, but not limited to :

  • Carrying out and / or lead highly complex engineering assignments requiring advanced systems engineering knowledge and expertise.
  • Providing technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems; solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable, and consistent with organisation objectives
  • Applying knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matters and techniques to be used
  • Leading the development and implementation of the required customer’s systems
  • Ability to lead a team of professional engineers, including subcontractors in achieving assigned project objectives and be responsible for technical, cost and schedule performance
  • Creating, participating in, and taking responsibility for project planning and estimating, status monitoring and reporting
  • Leading technical and program reviews at varying levels with management, customers and subcontractors
  • Acting as the internal and external customer advocate to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction is being achieved
  • Identifying, building and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of enterprise
  • Developing and revising software and system technical documentation
  • To be successful in this role, you will have :

  • University degree in Engineering
  • Demonstrated practical experience in relevant engineering areas e.g. Network engineering
  • Experience in systems engineering and analysis
  • Test and integration experience
  • Currently hold or an ability to achieve Australian Defence NV1 clearance, or higher, as required of the program
  • High desirable experience :

  • Desirable experience in a Defence communications environment
  • Data, IP and Transport Networks;
  • IP Protocol and Standards (MPLS, IPv6, VoIP, Optical Ethernet etc.);
  • Network Management and OSS (Operational Support Systems)
  • Engineering tools (DOORS, DMS, etc.)
