Ventia has been engaged to provide Hard and Soft FM services including village maintenance and accommodation to a number of Anglo American sites across the Bowen Basin.


We are currently recruiting for a SHEQ Manager, for this full time, permanent position, based in the Bowen Basin, QLD. This position works across multiple sites (Moura, Middlemount and Moranbah), on a 10 : 4 rotational roster.

This role will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and a key leader in promoting a positive and generative approach to the health and safety, environment and quality functions across the organisation.

The role will also provide technical capability to drive the development, implementation and continual improvement of the integrated contract management system (ICMS) to meet legal, contractual and other business requirements.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Managing the implementation of Safety Management Plans across the project
  • Ensuring compliance with legislations, regulations and standards and that all activities on the project are undertaken in a safe manner, and with the application of suitable frameworks and documentation
  • Undertake, or lead, investigations in relation to safety related incidents or issues and provide recommendations through the contract leadership team.
  • Engaging with Ventia SHEQ were appropriate.

  • Implementing processes to ensure communication and compliance with all SHEQ policies and procedures including fostering a culture of safety and health above all else’
  • Oversee employee rehabilitation, including Return to Work planning
  • Ensuring risk assessments and risk registers are developed and maintained and all records are managed in accordance with Company requirements
  • Ensuring that the Ventia Critical Risk Protocols are embedded in the project through Leaders.
  • Promoting the participation of all people in achieving a safe workplace with zero impact on the environment,
  • Utilise data from the CMMS to enable informed decisions to be made in relation to asset disposal, renewal and planned maintenance programs
  • Develop and deliver safety related training when required including new starter induction, tool box talks and pre start meetings

    To be successful in this role, you will require the following :

    Education and Qualifications :

  • Tertiary Qualification in Workplace / Occupation Health and Safety, Environmental or Quality Equivalent
  • Formal training in incident investigation
  • Management Systems and Lead Auditor Qualifications
  • Technical Competencies :

  • Have suitable experience as a safety professional in industrial safety on a full-time basis for at least 5 years and possess the required technical skills and knowledge to perform the role.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and a positive team culture
  • Experience in managing safety audit programs to ensure effective system compliance
  • Ability to implement and manage a collaborative workplace culture
  • Skills & Experience :

  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in safety / environment / quality or relevant industry role
  • Demonstrated understanding of contractual KPI’s Demonstrated commitment to HS&E through behaviours, visible and accountable leadership and participation in monitoring of established working practices
  • Detailed knowledge of SHEQ legislation, regulatory requirements and ISO standards within a utility or infrastructure project environment
  • Ability to develop and execute strategies to ensure compliance, minimise risk and drive continuous improvement.
