    The opportunity

    Managing the design, build and implementation of databases for applications development activityManaging and implementing Database Change activity as required by applications development teamsProactive monitoring, improving and tuning databases to ensure optimal operating efficiency, including planning of infrastructure growth.

    Analyses & Monitor the growth of data in production databasesEnsure the availability of data, whilst maintaining adequate safeguards and security.

    Liaise with internal and external team members and vendors to facilitate the improvement of database performance.Proactive planning of infrastructure growth over multi-year horizon with key stakeholdersDeveloping and maintaining documentation regarding all databases including process and procedure documentationAssist in the development, maintenance, documentation and implementation of key policies and procedures for the conduct of IT activities and engagements

    Your story so far

    Extensive experience as a database administrator - specifically DB2LUW and MS-SQLFundamental understanding of the Insurance businessDatabase analysis, design and development skills as well as scripting skills.

    Strong Investigative skills in troubleshooting problem and incidents.Ability to create, execute and debug test scripts for performanceTechnical knowledge of programming, scripts, system design, IT infrastructure : network, storage, hardware, software and database concepts.

    Strong report writing, documentation and communication skillsBroad knowledge in programming in multiple languages, operating systems and system software and hardware in particular pSeries & Wintel.

    Ability to interpret and understand various system metrics used in the analysis of capacity and performance metrics. E.G CPU Cores, I / O volumes, Memory availability, Paging etcStrong Word, Excel, Visio knowledgeRelevant tertiary qualifications or DBA related courses
