About the team

The Greater Sydney Division integrates transport modes including trains, metro and buses; critical infrastructure and services to support Sydney’s growing metropolitan population, projected to swell to over 12 million within the next 40 years.

The Transport Management Centre (TMC) is a 24 / 7 operations centre, which coordinates the live operations of our Transport network across NSW.

The centre handles over 200,000 calls each year reporting transport network incidents on our roads, rail, ferries and buses.

The opportunity

Right now, we have an opportunity for a Senior Transport Information Manager (part time) with demonstrated experience in an operational and hands on communications environment.

Working closely with senior operational staff in the Transport Operations Room, the focus of this role is to manage all aspects of front line information dissemination with relevant stakeholders to meet customer care objectives relating to unplanned incidents, planned events and road occupancies.

This role will see you leading and managing a communications team in a high pressure and complex operational environment to ensure the travelling public are advised of traffic and transport arrangement issues in a timely, concise and appropriate manner in line with the TfNSW social media, brand and communication protocols and strategies.

This is a fixed term (12 month) part time (3 day week) opportunity based in Eveleigh. The TMC is a 24 / 7 operations centre.

You will be required to work rostered shift work hours and act as a 24-hour contact for the organisation and the media.

What you will be involved in

  • Developing strategies to improve customer information to the public and implement customer care initiatives by working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Delivering strong media management for planned and unplanned incidents through strategic messaging across all channels, acting as an organisational spokesperson, when required.

    About you

    To be successful for this role, you will have demonstrated experience in an operational and hands on communications environment.

    You will be a strategic thinker but equally able to convert complex operational information during major incidents and major events into information for the public, key stakeholders and executive briefings.

    This is a challenging, high pressured yet rewarding role. You will be required to think on your feet and make decisions within a live 24 / 7 operations centre environment.

    You are a leader that empowers your team and develops capability, whist leading from the front.

    Tertiary qualifications in Communication, Journalism or a similar discipline and / or equivalent experience is essential, along with ability to identify issues with a high risk or potential public exposure and provide a managed response.

    Ideally you will be familiar with available technologies such as camera, radio, and content management systems.

    Salary and Benefits

    The salary for this position is Transport Grade 9 ($135,898 - $152,204) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading (pro-rata).
