Junkee Media, Australia’s leading youth publisher is on the hunt for a Managing Editor to lead its editorial team.
Junkee Media owns and operates flagship pop culture title Junkee; Gen Z title Punkee; and travel and lifestyle title AWOL, and is the only publisher to have two websites, Junkee and Punkee, awarded Media Brand of The Year at the Mumbrella Awards.
Junkee Media’s funny, smart, ballsy and interesting take on pop culture, music, news & politics and more has seen it develop a strong following over the last decade.

Here’s what you’ll do as Managing Editor or Junkee
Work closely with the editorial team to manage content creation, overseeing a team of editors and writers to ensure that we’re covering every possible angle and giving our audience the content they want and need every day
Work closely with the Editorial Director to execute the publishing vision for the business to achieve the engagement, monetisation and reputational goals of Junkee Media
Ensure accountability within the editorial team, including achievement of monthly traffic targets, while always ensuring content is on-brand and within our editorial code
Implementing best practice digital content creation and distribution strategy on a day-to-day and long-term basis
Ensure Junkee Media and its staff understand and are up-to-date with Australian media law and ethics
Manage recruitment and retention of a dedicated team of full time writers, helping them to develop their knowledge and expand their skill-sets
Work cross-functionally with editorial, sales and audience development teams to ensure accountability and reach company-wide targets

You’ll be familiar with Junkee Media’s brands Junkee, Punkee & AWOL and you’ll have plenty of ideas about how to grow them to reach new audiences.

You’ll be interested in working collaboratively with your team of full time editors, writers and producers to help them grow in their careers, and you’ll be passionate about giving writers from varied backgrounds a platform and a chance to have their say.
You’ll be passionate about online media and keen to learn more about the nuts and bolts of how everything works in a publishing business.
In addition you’ll have
At least five years’ experience working in an editorial agency, online publishing or similar, creating digital content that cuts through the noise & adds to the conversation
A solid understanding of Australian media law and ethics
Strong understanding of, and passion for, the youth digital media space
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a keen eye for detail
Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain confidential information
Computer skills; proficiency in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Adobe Creative Cloud apps and / or Mac operations is a plus
An understanding of, and alignment with, Junkee Media’s Vision, Purpose and Core Values, and a strong desire to take your career to the next level
A Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Journalism, Media and Communications or related field is preferred, but not essential
