The primary purpose of this role is to be the custodian of the external Novartis corporate brand and reputation. The role will seek to build, enhance and manage the corporate reputation of Novartis with key strategic stakeholders, as defined by the corporate stakeholder map.
Strategic stakeholder mapping and engagement
Build and maintain an external stakeholder map for the organisation, which identifies key external audiences and highlights shared interests
Ensure corporate oversight, and in partnership with other functions / roles (as required), engage and build mutually beneficial relationships with key external stakeholders and groups e.
g. research institutes, policy groups, media, healthcare professional bodies Corporate Communications
Develop, implement and regularly evaluate the strategic corporate communications strategy to enhance Novartis’ corporate reputation with key stakeholders
Lead external corporate content development and ensure newsflow for all external communications channels
Seek out and develop new external communications channels and opportunities to build corporate engagement and profile
Manage corporate communications budget and external agencies, as required
Liaison with trade associations to ensure aligned industry reputation messaging. This may include involvement with relevant industry working groups and committees.
Ensure strong alignment with global corporate communications team to build consistent external messaging Issues Management and Preparedness
Accountable for issues and crisis management and preparedness, (if necessary) in line with Novartis Emergency Management procedures and policies.
Manages and leads external stakeholder engagement and response, including media relations
Supporting the Director, and other relevant stakeholders to lead response for issues and crisis situations that may impact the corporate reputation of Novartis
Ensure local positions and statements are in place for areas of risk
Ensure key internal spokespeople are media trained on a regular basis
Build organisational capabilities and understanding of issues and crisis management and preparedness. Compliance and Integrity
Works within the Novartis policies and ensures those around him / her do the same
Works to ensure a diverse and inclusive environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment
University educated, in communications and / or marketing English
Communications agency and / or client service experience essential
Pharmaceutical experience preferred, but not essential
Strong background in stakeholder engagement and building mutually beneficial relationships
Track record in delivering (and ensuring evaluation of) corporate communications strategies, which build and drive corporate reputation
Proven track record in managing issues and managing media
Ability to form strong relationships with external stakeholders
A good team player and business partner, with the ability to effectively collaborate with fellow team members and other functions
