The role of a Senior Test Analyst is to support the Test Manager(s) with the QA delivery for a major software release (core or configured) by contributing to the formal test strategy and plans, providing detailed breakdown of test estimates, test conditions and risk assessments and ultimately the creation of detailed test scripts.

For smaller to medium size projects a Senior Test Analyst will be required to manage the whole test cycle from test planning, scripting, execution, MI reporting through to delivery.

This may involve leading a small team of test analysts (onshore & offshore) to deliver a quality assured release.

Department Information

The Paymaster IT department is responsible for end to end delivery of the IT and Business Change services into the wider EQ Paymaster division.

The Life & Pensions team, and this role specifically, is responsible for testing on our EQAdministrator platform. There is a large portfolio of work planned involving enhancements and additional functionality to EQAdministrator.

Success is measured through the delivery of high quality code, successful testing and on time delivery.

Core Duties / Responsibilities

  • Be involved in defining a project test strategy / approach working in conjunction with test managers / leads
  • Contribution to the writing on the project test plans (for small to medium projects will be the owner of the test plan)
  • Produce and agree testing estimates for project planning
  • Provide detailed estimating expertise and be able to review and sanction estimates from less experienced team members
  • Risk assessments to provide guidance for proposed test coverage
  • Writing of test conditions, test scripts and test data for testing projects
  • Monitor any change control to original requirements for impact analysis and capture these changes within a traceability matrix or within Jira
  • Setting up the test environment in co-ordination with the technical services
  • Work with the project manager to derive the main testing milestones with recommendations for the number of test cycles.
  • Work with the test manager to assess resource requirements for the project or a time-box
  • Implementing scheduled tests, execution and logging the tests and evaluating the results and documenting any deviations from expected results
  • Support the junior testers and offshore test team with clarifications and queries
  • Defect management covering - tracking faults, fault investigations and triage of faults incorporating severity ratings
  • Writing test summary reports (exit report) based on information gathered during testing
  • Fully understand how all aspects of your work integrates with the rest of the SDLC
  • Ensure successful delivery and conclusion of all test activities to meet the project target date
  • Continuously develop a professional, technical and commercially aware approach
  • Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Must be ISEB qualified to foundation level
  • Experience of working on Pensions or Payroll administration applications desirable
  • Detailed knowledge of Wealth Management products, L&P Web Portals and associated APIs would be beneficial
  • Must have experience of working within the financial sector
  • Excellent experience of test methods, covering - system testing, regression testing, exploratory testing, negative testing and platform testing
  • Must have experience of working in a development team that follows SDLC
  • Strong quality control awareness (adherence to the core department test strategy)
  • Have comprehensive test analysis skills to be able to interpret test requirements where limited information has been provided
  • Have demonstrable experience of producing high quality test documentation and writing client facing test summary reports
  • Good communication skills with experience of dealing with senior stakeholders and business ambassadors
  • Experience of facilitating fault review sessions that involve working with the Project Manager and Senior developers to resolve defect items
  • Have experience of working with the UAT / BAT teams to share knowledge and support final delivery to clients
  • Experience of Jira desirable
  • Experience of MTM desirable
  • Test Automation using Coded UI desirable
  • Experience of SQL Server, Microsoft office and SharePoint
  • A good understanding of Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution occupational pension schemes would be beneficial
  • Education to A-level standard or equivalent experience
