About the role
What you need to know :
This is a new and exciting role that offers the opportunity to be part of the leadership group within the business. The Head of Actuarial Pricing and Portfolio Management is responsible for actuarial advice on pricing and portfolio management across the business as well as involvement across a wider range of actuarial services.
The role reports directly to the Australian Appointed Actuary as part of the local actuarial team of four, that is part of the broader APAC regional actuarial team of 40+.
Key responsibilities :
Work as a member of the leadership team to achieve goals and deliver on strategic initiatives.
Responsible for actuarial advice on pricing across a broad range of products and market segments :
Using strong statistical and actuarial skills to analyze business segments and identify key profit / performance drivers and recommend actionable insights to drive improved performance and profit.
Maintain and improve portfolio analytics across production, claims and business mix.
Provide support to the budget loss ratio estimates and annual financial planning
Present advice and recommendations to senior business leaders and formal committees as required on rate adequacy, underwriting actions, reinsurance, target business segments and risk appetite.
Use both internal and external data to support and challenge to strategic direction and risk appetite for key business segments
Support key internal and external deliverables from the broader team including half-yearly reserve studies, and preparation of valuation and financial condition reports.
Work closely with local and regional teams to ensure operational, business and strategic alignment
Ad-hoc analyses and actuarial advice as required
Manage and mentor junior resources
What we’re looking for :
15+ years of general insurance experience in pricing and portfolio management. FIAA or similar actuarial qualification
Demonstrated knowledge of local market practices for key commercial lines product lines including : Financial Lines, SME package, Commercial Property and Marine
Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated problem solving and ability to synthesize complex issues into clear and actionable advice for non-technical audiences.
Experience with multivariate analyses. Knowledge of R / Python package is an advantage.
Experience with databases and proficient data extraction / manipulation skills. SQL knowledge is an advantage.
Demonstrated ability managing and monitoring portfolio performance and building appropriate tools and frameworks to support and improve insights and management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
