The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Coordination Team are looking for three Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officers.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are at a higher risk of morbidity and mortality during the pandemic and it is important to strongly engage with people and communities to develop culturally appropriate and safe, risk reduction and pandemic strategies.

About the Role
The COVID- pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented global public health emergency. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are at a higher risk of morbidity and mortality during the pandemic and it is important to strongly engage with people and communities to develop culturally appropriate and safe, risk reduction and pandemic strategies.
It is important that the COVID- response is strongly embedded in the commitment to Close the Gap to improve the health, life chances and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The temporary extended Hours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officers will reinforce the Hospital Liaison programme at Emergency Departments across Metro South Health between pm and pm during COVID- response to provide real time support to clients presenting at Emergency Departments and support linking back in to Primary and preventive Care.
The role will also work with Emergency Department staff to undertake Emergency Department improvement activities so that, at the end of the temporary opportunity the Department is better able to effectively support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
Hospital Liaison Officer's work collaboratively with Queensland Health multidisciplinary teams across Metro South facilities to ensure that appropriate, culturally sensitive services contribute to the improved health and well-being status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
