    The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) is responsible for protecting Australia's natural resources, agriculture and way of life.

    The Enabling Services Group (ESG) within DAWE has a significant role to deliver services that enable the department to achieve its mission.

    ESG is constructed of the Legal, People, Corporate Business Services, Finance and Information Services Divisions. ESG supports the department’s work by ensuring our corporate, legal and governance requirements are met, and by providing tools and systems, and communicating and providing services to the department and our stakeholders.

    The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) operates as the Australian Government’s principal revenue collection agency, administering legislation governing tax and superannuation, and supporting the delivery of government benefits to the community.

    The ATO’s purpose is to contribute to the economic and social wellbeing of Australians by fostering willing participation in the tax and superannuation systems.

    As an Assistant Commissioner in ATO People you will work within the Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Operations Group in the ATO.

    The Jobs

    We are seeking outstanding senior executives to fill various Human Resource (HR) Assistant Secretary / Commissioner vacancies across a number of APS departments.

    You will be responsible for delivering high quality strategic and operational HR outcomes across the organisation and play a key role in ensuring the workforce has the capability and capacity to support achieving organisational objectives.

    You will be a member of the senior executive and will contribute to the broader leadership of the organisation by ensuring we can attract, develop, mobilise and retain talented and capable employees now and into the future.

    You will also be part of a professional APS HR body, that is working together to bring the highest standard of HR practise to the APS.

    Your duties will include :

  • building a capable and strong workforce that delivers on organisational priorities
  • collaborating with clients to shape services and solutions in line with the evolving needs of the organisation and drive excellent customer service to deliver outcomes
  • fostering a high-performance culture, whilst focusing on continuous improvement of employee performance and maintaining continuous communication
  • promoting integrity practices by displaying high level of ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct, APS Values and APS Employment Principles
  • identifying and developing strategies to address future organisational workforce needs.
  • improving organisational HR capabilities and implementing new approaches to meet the needs of the evolving talent within the organisation
  • implementing policy, programs, systems and consistent services to address organisational and whole-of-government people priorities
  • representing the organisation at high-level discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders and external organisations
  • providing high quality advice and support to senior executive within the organisation
  • promoting collaboration within the organisation, with central agencies and across government.
  • Please note that this recruitment process will be used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions across both departments.

    If an offer of non-ongoing employment is made, the successful applicant could be employed for a period of five years in total.

    The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of twelve months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies where the duties are of a similar nature.

  • Leads by example and strongly demonstrate the APS Leadership capabilities.
  • Desirable qualifications

    HR qualifications and / or demonstrated equivalent experience are highly desirable.
